SharePoint at Ignite 2025: What’s new for SharePoint and Teams

Copilot + SharePoint: better understanding of content

Microsoft highlights that Microsoft 365 Copilot can now reason over more of SharePoint’s content and structure. This includes metadata in document libraries, intranet pages, content in Office files including embedded images in PowerPoint, as well as encrypted files with sensitivity labels. For Swedish organizations, this effectively means more accurate answers and less manual searching—provided that metadata and access permissions are in order. According to Microsoft, support for metadata, intranet pages, images in PowerPoint, and reading encrypted content is generally available in Copilot.

Knowledge Agent in public preview

Knowledge Agent in SharePoint continues its public preview with two changes addressing common rollout questions: you can now enable it at the site level instead of across the entire tenant, and Microsoft says that at general availability (targeted for early 2026) Knowledge Agent will be included in the Microsoft 365 Copilot license. For organizations wanting to pilot on a smaller scale, this reduces risk and facilitates pilot setups.

Create SharePoint pages and lists directly in Copilot

It is now possible to create SharePoint pages and lists directly in Copilot chat via the @SharePoint page agent and @SharePoint list agent. The feature is available through the Frontier program. This can streamline the creation of structured content without leaving Teams or the Copilot interface, but it requires governance around templates and publishing flows to maintain quality.

Agents in SharePoint – access and admin

Custom (no-code) agents created in SharePoint can be opened in Copilot chat and distributed via the Agent Store in Microsoft 365 Copilot as well as in the Teams app store. The Microsoft 365 admin center now provides a consolidated view to review, block, and monitor agents, including reports for usage, licensing, and costs. This makes it easier for IT and information owners to track adoption and compliance as agents scale across Teams and Copilot.

More updates affecting SharePoint and Teams

eSignature in Microsoft 365 is generally available and can be initiated directly from SharePoint for Word and PDF files, with support for Adobe and DocuSign within Microsoft’s compliance framework. Viva Amplify can now be used to elevate SharePoint news to multiple channels such as Outlook, Teams, and Viva Engage with unified analytics. SharePoint’s FAQ web part is entering public preview with AI suggestions, simplified import, and linking to specific questions and internal sources. A new SharePoint Admin Agent in public preview addresses inactivity, oversharing, and permission sprawl through policies directly in the admin center. Microsoft also showcased upcoming AI-based workflows for lists and libraries, as well as Pay-As-You-Go storage for more flexible capacity and cost control.

What this means for you

Short term: you can improve Copilot results by strengthening metadata in key libraries, limiting your pilot to selected SharePoint sites with Knowledge Agent, and testing page and list creation via Copilot in controlled scenarios in Teams. Longer term: plan for agent governance in the admin center, evaluate eSignature flows in SharePoint, and develop guidelines for how news is distributed via Viva Amplify to reach target audiences in both SharePoint and Teams.

Note: Microsoft states that Knowledge Agent is targeting GA in early 2026 and that some features require specific programs (e.g., Frontier) or licenses. If you want a review of what is available in your specific tenant and Teams environment, we can help verify the status and propose a pilot plan.
