Microsoft has launched several new features in Teams and SharePoint that may impact the way many organizations work. Here are some of the most important updates from August.
Simplified Search and Expanded Chat and Collaboration Options
Teams has improved the ability to search for and filter files in chats and channels, making it easier to quickly find shared materials without scrolling through long threads. It is now also possible to use SQL-like commands in the search bar to filter results, making it more efficient to locate the right information. Additionally, users can now customize their keyboard shortcuts to suit their needs, and it is possible to save important messages for quick access later.
Another new feature is the ability to use multiple emojis to react to a message, providing greater flexibility in how users express themselves in group discussions.
Updates for Meetings and Copilot
Among the new features for meetings is the ability to create personal templates for recurring meeting types, saving time and ensuring consistency. Another relevant update is that IT administrators can now upload custom glossaries to Copilot in Teams. This means that specific terms and expressions unique to the organization can be recognized in meeting notes and AI-generated summaries, improving the relevance of Copilot’s output.
SharePoint Agents in Teams
SharePoint agents can now be added directly to Teams channels and group chats. An agent can be linked to a specific SharePoint library or folder and assist with answering questions or helping with document management directly in Teams. It is also possible to have multiple agents in the same group chat, which can be useful for teams working on different projects or document collections.
Improved Workspace and Desk Booking Management
Teams has also gained new features for booking desks and workspaces at the office. Users can now book a desk directly via a map, see where colleagues are sitting and book a spot nearby, as well as book for multiple days or for parts of a day. Administrators can now also automatically release unused bookings after a certain period, helping to free up resources. These features require a Teams Premium license.
