Copilot and agents in Teams
Microsoft is rolling out a more unified Copilot experience in Teams that works across chats, channels, and (in public preview) meetings. This brings contextual summaries, rewrites, and tasks based on chat and meeting context. Also new is Teams mode for Microsoft 365 Copilot (public preview), where individual Copilot conversations can be shared to a group chat in Teams with controls over what is shared. For teams looking to automate follow-up in channels, the channel agent is being expanded with status reports posted directly in the channel and a work-back planning flow that can be added to Planner after review.
Better collaboration in channels and chats
Teams is getting a persistent, shared space in chats and channels to collect key information and co-create content. In channels, you can add pages and existing Loop components as tabs. In 1:1 and group chats, there are notes visible only to the chat’s members, with support for formatting, images, and @mentions. You can also pop out core apps (chat, calls, calendar, activity, and more) into their own windows for easier multitasking, and forwarded messages now link back to the original conversation when permissions allow. A new search box in Settings helps you find the right option faster.
External collaboration and platform
External collaboration is simplified in public preview: users in smaller organizations can start chats with external users via email, share files and Loop components with admin-governed permissions, and see clear trust indicators for external participants. Users who switch between multiple tenants can read and reply across tenants without account switching. On the platform side, channel agents can connect to Asana, Atlassian, and GitHub via an MCP server to execute workflows across tools. Admins get better visibility into app and agent permissions, risk levels, and compliance attributes to accelerate approvals.
Meetings, webinars, and town halls
The facilitator agent gains improved context awareness: it can interpret agendas in the meeting chat, display a progress indicator, remind invitees who were mentioned but haven’t joined, and help create document drafts in Word or Loop. Task management during meetings is also supported. New meeting recap templates let you choose from ready-made summaries or create your own templates that can be saved for reuse (public preview in December). For large broadcasts, town hall is strengthened with better control, production, and analytics, including presenter insights on stream quality. Mac users get improved screen sharing via the native macOS picker.
Teams Phone and mobile
After calls, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat can be used in the Calls app to generate summaries and next steps based on Graph data and web sources, not just transcripts. On mobile, there are clearer indicators for shared lines, and on iPhone you can set Teams as the default phone app so calls go through Teams with your organization’s security policies. For compliance, third-party recording solutions are now supported at the queue level, simplifying policy-based recording.
Security, administration, and VDI
Teams strengthens protection in chats and channels by blocking potentially dangerous file types and warning about malicious links. Users can also report incorrect security flags to improve accuracy. In the Teams admin center, Copilot support is being added for insights and troubleshooting, along with a new troubleshooting experience for meetings in public preview. Administrators can also monitor quality issues related to VDI configurations. For Amazon WorkSpaces, a new public preview offloads media handling for improved meeting performance.
