In connection with this year’s Microsoft Build, Teams has received several new features that may be relevant for those of you working with collaboration and information sharing in Microsoft 365. Below, we have summarized the most important updates in Teams that could impact your daily work and collaboration with SharePoint.
Improvements in Teams for Collaboration and Meetings
Microsoft Teams continues to evolve to make collaboration simpler and more efficient. A new chat and channel experience has been launched, allowing you to more easily filter, organize, and keep track of important conversations. It is now also easier to share files from chats and channels, simplifying information sharing between different teams and projects. For those who frequently work with code, there is improved handling of code blocks, and you can also adjust keyboard shortcuts to match other applications you are used to.
Furthermore, Teams now supports quick and easy adjustment of window size and zoom, making it easier to work across different devices and screens. The meeting experience has also become more accessible, including real-time text (RTT), which makes it easier for everyone to participate on equal terms, regardless of their needs.
AI and Agents for Teams
A clear trend in this year’s updates is the increased focus on AI and automation. Microsoft has released an updated Teams AI Library, enabling developers to build intelligent agents to assist within Teams. These agents can now collaborate with each other via the new Agent2Agent protocol (A2A), which means different AI agents can communicate and work together to solve more complex tasks.
Teams also now supports agent memory, which means that AI agents can remember previous interactions and thus provide more context-aware responses. For organizations looking to automate and enhance the management of meeting notes and follow-ups, there is now an API for meeting insights that can be used to extract key points and tasks after meetings.
Integration with SharePoint
Many of the new features in Teams are aimed at strengthening collaboration and information sharing, often in close integration with SharePoint. The improved file management in Teams makes it easier to share and find documents stored in SharePoint libraries directly via Teams, reducing the need to switch between different applications.
For IT administrators, it has become easier to manage Teams devices and meeting rooms, including improved role-based permissions and better support for device management.
