New Features in Microsoft Teams and SharePoint – July 2025

Microsoft has recently released several updates for Teams and SharePoint that may be of interest to those working with collaboration and digital workplaces. Here is a summary of the most important news from July 2025.

Teams: Copilot Available to More Users and Smarter Collaboration

It is now easier to use Copilot directly from Teams, even for users without a separate Copilot license. Copilot Chat is now located at the top of the Teams chat list, making it possible for more people to try out AI features in their daily work. Teams has also received an improved search function—when you search, you now get personalized suggestions not only for colleagues but also for apps and agents, which can help you quickly find the right resources.

Another new feature is the ability to automate workflows using emoji reactions. This means you can trigger various work tasks directly via reactions in Teams—for example, forwarding cases or creating automated tasks—which can save time and reduce manual work.

Meetings and Accessibility: Interpreter and Improved Support

With the Interpreter feature, Teams can now offer real-time speech translation in nine different languages, simplifying collaboration in international teams. Participants can listen and speak in their own language while the translation happens automatically. Interpreter is available on desktop, web, and mobile, and users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license receive two hours of interpretation per month.

There are also improvements for sign language interpretation in meetings, so that people with hearing impairments have better visibility and the opportunity to participate on equal terms. Additionally, administrators gain more control over access to Town Hall events, along with new features for polls and automatically generated meeting notes.

SharePoint: News for News Feeds

For those working with internal communication, the Enterprise News Reader is now being launched in SharePoint. With this feature, relevant news from the SharePoint sites you follow is displayed, filtered according to your permissions. Important organizational news is prioritized, and it is possible to like or save articles to easily find them again when needed. The feature is especially useful for employees who want to stay updated without being overwhelmed by information.

Simplified Administration and New Devices

Administrators receive new tools in the Teams Admin Center, including the ability to monitor network issues and collect logs for troubleshooting directly from users’ computers. It has also become easier to manage phone numbers and contacts for Teams phones via PowerShell, which is relevant for organizations with larger telephony setups.

Microsoft has also introduced new Teams-certified devices from, among others, Biamp and Yealink. These products cover everything from advanced meeting room solutions to portable headsets and offer improved audio and video experiences for both small and large meeting rooms.
