What’s NewMicrosoft is now launching immersive events as part of Teams. This means 3D-based meetings and larger events can be planned, built, and delivered directly in Teams on PC, Mac, and Meta Quest. Capabilities include avatars, customizable 3D environments, easy presenter onboarding, and integrated chat and Q&A. The aim is to make town halls, onboarding, training, and customer events more engaging without leaving Teams.
What It Means for Organizations Using SharePoint and TeamsFor organizations already working in Microsoft 365, this provides a more unified experience: events are scheduled in the Teams calendar, materials can be prepared and shared via SharePoint, and participants join with existing identities and security and compliance policies. For teams looking to increase interaction in larger broadcasts, the “action groups” feature can create guided sequences, display 3D objects, and trigger media in real time—without code.
Licensing and RequirementsTo host immersive events, you need a commercial Teams license as well as Teams Premium. Co-organizers and attendees can participate with standard licenses, such as Microsoft 365 E3/E5 with Teams or Teams Enterprise. Organizations planning to use Meta Quest at scale should account for identity integration and MDM management.
Mesh Is Being Retired—Plan the TransitionWith the general availability of immersive events, Microsoft Mesh as a standalone platform will be retired starting December 1, 2025. This means the Mesh apps for PC and Quest can no longer be used for meetings, “immersive space (3D)” will be removed from Teams meetings, and mesh.cloud.microsoft will be shut down. If you previously used Mesh, you should plan a transition to the new Teams-based capabilities.
How to Get StartedCreate a new event in the Teams calendar and choose Immersive Event. You can then customize the environment with branding, images, video, and 3D models, invite participants, and test the presenter flow. For VR participation on Meta Quest, there is support for rapid rollout and secure sign-in.
